Beginners Spoon Carving Workshop
1pm – 4:30pm at Alderfen Marshes
Spoon carving is not only an enjoyable craft skill, it’s also incredibly relaxing and meditative. Join Monica for an afternoon outside in nature, working with your hands at Alderfen Marshes, a SSSI conservation site just outside Norwich, Norfolk.
Suitable for beginners or those who have some basic spoon carving knowledge but would like a refresher, this workshop provides an accessible introduction to the craft of carving spoons using locally sourced green wood and professional tools.
You will be able to take home your creation at the end of the course and will be given tips on caring for your item (e.g. preventing splits, applying finishes and post-production care).
– All materials and tools are provided, with tea and coffee available. Please bring your own mug and snacks to comply with COVID regulations.
– Please note this is an outdoor, all-weather course. Sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and layers are strongly recommended. A covered outdoor area will be provided in the event of rain and a fire pit will be lit in colder temperatures.
– Due to the nature of working with axes, knives and other sharp tools, all students must be 18+ (or 16+ if accompanied by an adult).
Monica has extensive experience in wood craft. She started carving 5 years ago and has offered several courses as a way of highlighting par-avion co’s commitment to heritage craft and ecologically minded design, as well as the importance of skill sharing, creative community and mindfulness.
The course is held at an outdoor site just south of Norwich. Directions and parking instructions will be provided upon booking:
