Spoon Carving Taster Session – 3.5 Hours
This is a 3 1/2-hour long (9:30am – 1:00pm) beginner’s wooden spoon carving course based at a SSSI conservation marshland just south of the Norwich city centre. You will learn the basic skills required to make your own spoon from freshly cut green woods from the site.
You will be able to take home your creation at the end of the course and will be given tips on caring for your item (e.g. applying waxes and finishes for a long-lasting product).
All tools will be provided for the students to use on the day. I will provide a selection of axes, carving knives, gouges, rasps and hand saws to trial and will give advice on purchasing your own tools after the course if you choose to invest further.
Lunch is not provided, but coffees, teas and biscuits will be available on the day.
Please note this is an outdoor, all-weather course. Sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and layers are strongly recommended. A covered outdoor area will be provided in the event of rain and a fire pit will be lit in colder temperatures.
Due to the nature of working with axes, knives and other sharp tools, all students must be 18+ (or 16+ if accompanied by an adult).
The course is held at an outdoor site just south of Norwich. Directions and parking instructions will be provided upon booking:
