15 Page Road, Sweet Briar Road Industrial Estate, Norwich, NR3 2BX

Seat weaving is a heritage craft skill useful in restoring furniture or creating new seats for chair makers. It is also incredibly relaxing and meditative. Join Monica for a 3-hour taster session learning the basics of warp-and-weft style Danish cord seat weaving. All materials and tools will be provided, along with a selection of coffee, teas and biscuits.  You will work on a small wooden frame that you can take home with you at the end of the course and use as a trivet, wall hanging or to use as further practice.

Suitable for beginners or those who have some basic seat weaving knowledge but would like a refresher, this workshop provides an accessible introduction to the craft of Danish cord seat weaving using locally sourced timber, natural paper cord and professional tools.

 - This is an indoor event based in an industrial unit with uneven floors. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring layers as the unit is unheated. The unit has level access for wheelchair users, but toilet facilities are not accessible.

- The minimum recommended age for this is 11+, however, all students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. An accompanying adult does not need to purchase a ticket, but please make note of this at the time of booking. Smaller children (e.g. toddlers & babies) not taking part are asked not to attend as the event takes place in a working wood shop with other hazards present.

Monica has extensive experience in seat weaving and wood craft. She started seat weaving in Danish cord, rush and willow skein over 10 years ago and has offered several courses as a way of highlighting par-avion co.’s commitment to heritage craft and ecologically minded design, as well as the importance of skill sharing, creative community and mindfulness.
